Adventure Horse Trek to Hagiin Har Nuur


Take this unique horse riding experience to Hagiin Har Nuur through the ancient nomads campsites. The journey heads toward more of the best spots along the horse trail.

Day 1:
Terelj National Park and Tuul River

In the morning we will head east of UB, reaching Khentii National Park after a 2-hour drive, where the landscape consists of green, forested hillsides, and spectacular granite cliffs. Many nomads live in this area, and you can see yaks, sheep, goats and horses grazing in this peaceful valley. Some sightseeing visit at Terelj national park is ahead of us. Our first stop will be will be the Genghis Khan Monument. The Genghis Khan Monument is a vast aluminium monument of Genghis Khanon his horse. It’s possible to climb to the top of the monument from where you have a gear view of the surrounding area.

Turtle Rock and Aryaval Monastery, small meditation monastery at the foot of mountain. Further down at the exit of park we will visit the 100 monks' cave, during the purge of Stalinism about 100 monks were hiding in this small cave from persecution.

By lunch time we will arrive at a local family, where we will start riding through lush meadows for a couple of hours towards the Tuul River valley, where we will set up our first camp. Then, we will have dinner on the Tuul River bank.

Day 2:
Zuugiin Rashaan Springs

Today, as we follow the Tuul River, we enter dense pine forest, at the southern tip of Siberian Taiga. We will see Golden eagles, woodpeckers, and other birds. We will arrive at the confluence of the Tuul and Hagyn rivers, where we will camp for the night. As we go deeper and further into the forest area, we will see how remote we get from the urban lifestyle.

Day 3:
Zegestei River

Leaving the Tuul valley behind us, we will enter tundra forests. This environment is typical moose habitat, and you will see so many marks of this magnificent animal that by the end of the day, you will be able to detect their presence like an expert! The landscape is beautiful with its untouched nature.

Day 4:
Hagiin Har Nuur

After several hours of riding, we start to ascend a mountain through deep forest noted for its abundance of wolves, bears, deer and moose. Reaching its top, we overlook and descend to the breath-taking Black Lake. We will ride to 3 wonderful smaller lakes further on in the valley, three pearls. The most adventurous of you can climb the surrounding mountains and admire the superb panorama. We will reach the Hagiin Har Nuur Lake in the evening.

Day 5:
Khavirgiin Davaa

After breakfast we will ride through Khongoryn River valley. Riding down the stream for 4 hours, we will ford the river. After a couple more hours, we will come across a mountainous forest of birch, pine and age-old cedar. We will make a steep ascent, and an even steeper descent across the Khaviragiin Pass, which lies at the eastern shoulder of Altan Olgii peak. Translated as Golden Cradle,' this 2646m mountain is one of the highest peaks of the Khentii range. We will spend the night camping in the forest, close to a stream.

Day 6:
Boot

Today we will continue riding towards Terelj through the Dund Bayan Gol valley. Towards the end of day, we will find a good spot to set up our tented camp.

Day 7:
Back to the Family

We will ride to our host family at Terelj National Park. Today our ride is slightly longer than the other days but easier in Ogoomor valley. After crossing Terelj River we straight head back to the local family and our vehicle will pick us up and take to the city. You may enjoy the free afternoon to catch up all the places you haven’t visited yet. You might as well check the beautiful cultural show enjoy the colourful and rhythmic Mongolian dance, throat singing & admire the contortionists.
